A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Chelmsford is seeking a Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with additional learning needs. This is a full-time position to start immediately, with the opportunity to become long-term for the right candidate.
The Role
You’ll be working closely with the class teacher and SENCo to support a child with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to access the curriculum and develop their confidence, independence, and social skills.
Your responsibilities will include:

Providing tailored 1:1 support within the classroom and during small group activities

Assisting with learning tasks, emotional regulation, and social interaction

Supporting the child’s individual targets as outlined in their EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan)

Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement through patience, consistency, and praise

Working closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes

Promoting inclusion and celebrating the child’s achievements and progress
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:

Experienced working with children, ideally those with additional or special educational needs (SEN)

Calm, patient, and empathetic, with a genuine passion for supporting young learners

Able to build positive, trusting relationships with children and staff

A good communicator who can work effectively as part of a team

Reliable, flexible, and proactive in adapting to each child’s needs
A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience) is desirable, but not essential for the right candidate.
