Job Title: Aspiring Education Psychologist – SEMH Learning Support Assistant
Location: Wandsworth
Salary Scale: £90 – £110 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Full-Time | Long-Term

This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive specialist school in Wandsworth as an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, where you will help pupils overcome barriers to learning caused by social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.

About the Role

As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will provide consistent support to children with challenging behaviour and complex needs, many of whom may have experienced trauma, social difficulties, or adverse childhood experiences. Your role will be to build trust, nurture resilience, and provide academic and emotional support while working closely with experienced staff and therapeutic teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Youth Studies, Social Sciences, or related fields – though non-graduates with passion, compassion, and resilience are equally encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and group support for pupils with SEMH needs, helping them manage behaviour and emotions.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships to foster engagement and learning.

  • Assist teachers in delivering tailored and creative lessons that meet diverse needs.

  • Support students in developing resilience, self-confidence, and social skills.

  • Follow safeguarding procedures and escalate concerns appropriately.

Candidate Requirements

  • Genuine passion for supporting students with SEMH and SEND.

  • Degree in Psychology, Youth Studies, Criminology, or a related subject desirable (but not essential).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).
