Job description

Support Worker
Location: York, North Yorkshire – SEN School
Contract: Full-Time with Part-Time considered
Start Date: Immediate
Salary: £85 – £105 per day

Are you someone who thrives on making a difference to the lives of young people? Do you want to be part of a team that celebrates every achievement, no matter how big or small? If so, this could be the perfect role for you.

We’re looking for a Support Worker to join a specialist SEN school in York, working with students who have Autism, complex needs, and SEMH profiles. Every day is different, but every day is rewarding.

About the School:

This is a nurturing and inclusive school where students are encouraged to achieve their personal best. Staff work in small classes, with high levels of support, to create a calm and safe environment for learning. Alongside academic subjects, there’s a strong focus on life skills, independence, and preparing young people for adulthood. You’ll be joining a passionate team that genuinely cares about the progress and wellbeing of every student.

As a Support Worker, you will be:

  • Supporting young people in lessons, small groups, or on a 1:1 basis.
  • Helping students to build confidence, resilience, and independence.
  • Assisting with personal care and daily routines where required.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and supporting emotional regulation.
  • Creating a safe, caring, and engaging environment for learning.

What we’re looking for:

  • Someone with a kind, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Experience of working with young people (in a school, care, or community setting) is desirable but not essential.
  • A team player who can build positive relationships with staff and students.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the needs of different learners.

Why join through GSL Education?

  • Competitive rates of pay from £85 to £105 per day.
  • Options for PAYE or Umbrella payments.
  • Free training and CPD to support your professional development.
  • A consultant who specialises in SEN and will support you throughout your placement.

This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a school that transforms lives. If you’re ready to start your journey in SEN, or continue building on existing experience, we’d love to hear from you.
