Support Worker
Location: York, North Yorkshire – SEN School
Contract: Full-Time (Part-Time Considered), Term Time Only
Start Date: As soon as possible
Pay Rate: £85 – £105 per day
GSL Education are working in partnership with a specialist school in York to recruit a Support Worker to join their dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity for compassionate and resilient individuals who want to make a positive difference in the lives of young people with complex needs. Full-time work is available, though part-time applicants will also be considered.
About the School:
The school provides education and care for secondary-aged students with a wide range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), severe learning difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) profiles. With a strong focus on nurturing independence, communication, and life skills, the school offers a supportive and inclusive environment where staff and students thrive. Class sizes are small, with excellent resources and a high staff-to-student ratio to ensure personalised support.
As a Support Worker, you will:
- Assist students with their learning, personal development, and daily routines.
- Provide individualised support to students with autism, complex needs, and SEMH.
- Promote independence and social skills through structured activities.
- Support behaviour management strategies to create a safe and positive environment.
- Encourage students to engage in lessons, social opportunities, and community activities.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other school staff.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience supporting individuals with additional needs (in education, care, or community settings).
- Be compassionate, patient, and resilient.
- Be able to adapt support strategies to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Have strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Hold a DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
