Autism Support Assistant 
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour  
Contract Type: Full time, Term Time Only 
Start Date: October 2025 or sooner

About the Role: 

As an Autism Support Worker, you will be key in helping students with autism thrive both academically and personally. You will provide tailored support to meet their individual needs, ensuring they feel safe, included, and able to make progress in line with their education and care plans.

Autism Support Worker Responsibilities: 

  • Provide individualised support for students with autism, adapting activities and approaches to encourage independence and personal development.
  • Foster positive and trusting relationships to help learners feel secure and motivated in their education.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and wider school staff to deliver joined-up support.
  • Track and report on progress against learning and care objectives, ensuring goals are met.
  • Assist with daily routines, self-care, and personal needs in a respectful and supportive way.
  • Promote active engagement in lessons, enrichment, and wider school life through clear and effective communication.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Experience of working with children or young people with SEND, particularly autism, is essential.
  • Understanding of autism spectrum conditions and a toolkit of supportive strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting learners with complex needs.
  • Flexibility to respond to the varied needs of individual students.
