Are you caring, resilient, and looking for a role where you can make a real difference? GSL Education are looking for Support Workers to join a specialist school in York that supports young people with complex needs, Autism, and SEMH needs.

This role is ideal for people from care, healthcare, social work, youth work, or community support backgrounds who are passionate about helping others and want to bring their transferable skills into an education setting.

About the School:
This specialist school provides education and care for children and young people with a wide range of additional needs. Many pupils are non-verbal or have significant communication or behavioural needs. The school is proud to create a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where every child can thrive.

Working as a School-based Support Worker means you will be:

  • Working closely with pupils to provide care, support, and encouragement.
  • Helping students to develop life skills, independence, and confidence.
  • Supporting communication using visual aids, PECS, or alternative methods.
  • Assisting with behaviour management in a calm and positive way.
  • Enabling young people to access learning and take part in meaningful activities.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Background in care, support work, youth work, healthcare, or similar (education experience not essential).
  • Empathetic, patient, and adaptable individuals.
  • Confident working with people with complex or challenging needs.
  • Team players with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

In return, GSL Education offers:

  • Competitive daily pay via PAYE or Umbrella.
  • CPD opportunities including SEN and behaviour management training.
  • A supportive consultant who understands your career goals.
  • Pathways to progress into Teaching Assistant or other education roles if desired.

If you’re ready to take your experience from care or community settings into a school environment, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
