Teaching Assistant
Contract: Full-Time /Part-Time / Long-Term
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Pay: £90 – £110 per day (depending on experience)

GSL Education are seeking experienced SEN Teaching Assistants to join a specialist school in York that supports students with complex needs, including Autism, non-verbal communication, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) profiles.

About the role as a Teaching Assistant:

  • Supporting students with complex Autism, SEMH, and behavioural needs.
  • Using de-escalation strategies and Team Teach approaches to manage behaviour safely and positively.
  • Supporting non-verbal students through communication aids and tailored interventions.
  • Delivering 1:1 and small group support to enable progress both academically and socially.
  • Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and the wider SEN team to develop personalised learning plans.

As the ideal Teaching Assistant, we are looking for:

  • SEN professionals with proven experience supporting students with ASC, SEMH, or other complex needs.
  • Confident in behaviour management and building positive, trusting relationships with students.
  • Ideally trained in Team Teach, MAPA, or similar behaviour management strategies (training can be provided).
  • Resilient, proactive, and able to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
