SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full-Time / Part-Time / Term Time Only

Pay: £88 – £105 per day

GSL Education are currently seeking dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join our supply team and support a specialist school in York. This is an exciting opportunity to work with students with a range of complex needs, including Autism (ASC), non-verbal communication, behavioural needs, and SEMH profiles.

About the Role as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide tailored support to children and young people with complex needs, including Autism and SEMH.
  • Use patience, empathy, and resilience to engage students in their learning and daily routines.
  • Support non-verbal students with alternative communication methods.
  • Manage challenging behaviour effectively, using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to deliver a personalised curriculum.

SEN Teaching Assistant Ideal Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with ASC, SEMH, or complex behavioural needs.
  • A compassionate and resilient approach to supporting young people.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to use non-verbal communication strategies.
  • A genuine passion for helping students achieve their potential.
  • Additional training such as Team Teach, NAPPI, MAPA, PECs or Makaton is advantageous but not essential as this can be provided.
