Academic Support Assistant

Location: York, North Yorkshire

Salary: £90 - £100 per day

Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education are seeking dedicated, enthusiastic, and caring Academic Support Assistant to work at an Alternative Provision in York, North Yorkshire, starting as soon as possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality support to students with a range of additional needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons.
  • Support students in accessing learning and encourage independence through structured routines and personalised strategies.
  • Deliver small group or 1:1 interventions.
  • Help manage behaviour using a consistent and positive approach.
  • Support with personal care and mobility.

Requirements:

  • Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
  • Experience working with children or young people.
  • Understanding of the barriers to learning experienced by students with SEND.
  • Ability to work calmly and patiently, particularly in emotionally demanding situations.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Hold a Child Only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one with GSL Education.
