Location: Hackney
Salary: £41,086 - £48,207 per annum
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-Time - Term Time Only
Working Hours: 7:15 am – 16:30 pm (hours will vary during exam periods)

GSL Education London Branch is delighted to be recruiting a Cover & Examinations Officer to join a thriving coeducational comprehensive secondary school in Hackney. This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive, detail-oriented, and organised professional to make a real impact by ensuring seamless cover arrangements and the smooth running of all external examinations.

The Cover & Examinations Officer role is central to supporting the day-to-day operations of the school. You will play a key part in staff absence cover, managing exam processes in line with regulations, and ensuring all students have the best possible examination experience.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the administration and organisation of all short-term staff absence cover.

  • Managing the planning and delivery of external examinations and qualifications in line with Awarding Body regulations.

  • Arranging daily supply cover for teaching staff, starting at 7:15 am.

  • Recording and maintaining accurate sickness absence data.

  • Ensuring all planned absences are logged and appropriate cover is arranged.

  • Responding to absence-related queries throughout the school day, including emergency cover.

  • Using SIMS to manage cover assignments, coordinate teacher schedules, and assign cover duties internally and externally.

 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in an administrative or school-based role, ideally with cover or examinations.

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise in a busy environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with staff, students, and external agencies.

  • Confidence in using SIMS or similar school management systems.

  • A proactive problem-solver with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • The ability to work flexibly, especially during examination periods.
