Job Title: Learning Mentor

Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour
Contract: Full-time/Part-time

About the School:

The school operates across two sites in Dorchester with a shared purpose: to provide the highest standard of education and support for children who, for various reasons, are outside of mainstream school education. It is an alternative provision that offers vocational and extracurricular opportunities, aiming to equip students with essential functional and life skills. With both primary and secondary divisions, the school caters to students of all ages and abilities, striving to provide the best opportunities for post-16 life.

About the Role:

As a Learning Mentor, you will provide one-to-one and small group support to students in a dynamic and engaging environment. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys supporting young people, assisting them both academically and with their personal development. This role involves helping students with their academic studies, as well as supporting their social and emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students, both individually and in small groups, to help them reach their full potential.
  • Support students across a range of academic subjects, helping them develop essential skills and build confidence.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to identify students' needs and implement effective learning strategies.
  • Monitor student progress, offering constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment that fosters students' growth academically and emotionally.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A Learning Mentor with a passion for supporting students in their academic and personal development.
  • Experience working with young people in an educational or mentoring setting is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and enthusiastic approach to learning support.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.

This role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and the successful applicant will need to pass all necessary background checks, including an enhanced DBS.
