Our client strives to provide effective specialist education and support to pupils on the Autistic Spectrum and to their families, enabling pupils to achieve their full potential in education and in life outside school. Their mission is to break down the barriers to learning that our students encounter and to help them to equip themselves for as independent a life as possible outside of school. The successful candidate will: • Be a qualified teacher (ideally PGCE, GTP, B'ed, Cert Ed, BA with QTS) who is able to teach MFL. • Demonstrate experience in a similar type of school within the last two years. • Be proven to raise and maintain attainment levels, keeping standards high. • Be an enthusiastic, energetic and highly motivated individual who leads by example. • Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills. • Have excellent behaviour management skills. Our client is a Specialist School based in South East London that meets the needs of children and young people with the most severe ASD. The school and ASD services are built on the principle of putting children and young people first every time. Our client is ambitious for its pupils, transforming their lives and enabling them to become independent adults capable of contributing positively to the local community. The curriculum is designed to help young people to overcome their difficulties in communication, social interaction and imagination. A high priority is given to developing effective communication approaches. Underpinning the school’s values is a comprehensive understanding of the link between behaviour and communication, recognising that behaviour is communication. Through proper interpretation, understanding and meeting needs, and enabling children to communicate their needs and desires effectively, it is possible to reduce challenging behaviours. The successful candidate will meet the following criteria: • Be a qualified teacher (ideally PGCE, GTP, B'ed, Cert Ed, BA with QTS) and an outstanding SEN practitioner. • Have previous experience of working with students with ASD and Autism and have the relevant behaviour management experience. The role involves the following: • To maintain a high quality educational environment for the pupils in the class. • To work effectively with other staff both in the classroom and across the school e.g: teaching assistants, therapists etc. • To carry out any reasonable instructions given by the Executive Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teachers and Head of Department. • To plan and assess pupils learning using specific ASD practices. To plan work that is differentiated for all pupils. • To use good classroom management strategies to ensure that the environment is conducive to learning. • To manage pupils behaviour with the support of the class team using the Behaviour Support Plans that are in place. Modifying these plans when necessary. • To maintain close links with families through the use of the home/school contact books and regular phone calls. • To implement pupils’ Personalised Plans, to review and record these and to write new plans when needed. • To monitor and assess pupils progress using the school assessment system. To keep this data updated regularly. • To teach across the department in KS4 options groups. To plan and record for these groups. • To attend teachers’ meetings, morning briefings and parent evenings.
