Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £95 - £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-Time | 5 Days per Week

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to work within schools across Newcastle upon Tyne. This rewarding role is ideal for someone who understands the importance of building positive relationships and supporting students who may be experiencing behavioural, emotional, or social challenges.
We are looking for individuals who can provide consistency, encouragement, and guidance to help pupils develop confidence, improve behaviour, and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom. Every day is different, and your ability to remain calm, supportive, and approachable could make a lasting impact on a young person's future.
About the Role
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional support to manage their behaviour and engage positively with learning. You will act as a positive role model, helping pupils develop self-confidence, emotional regulation skills, and strategies to overcome challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with behavioural needs
- Support pupils in managing emotions and making positive choices
- Encourage engagement in lessons and wider school activities
- Build strong, professional, and trusting relationships with students
- Promote positive behaviour through consistency and encouragement
- Support teachers and pastoral staff with behaviour intervention strategies
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Monitor and record student progress where required
- Uphold safeguarding and school policies at all times
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals is desirable
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Ability to motivate and encourage students to achieve their potential
- Confidence managing challenging situations professionally
- Reliable, adaptable, and committed to supporting young people
- Available to work 5 days per week
- Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
