Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 per annum

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of English to undertake a maternity cover placement within a secondary school setting in Hornsea, East Riding of Yorkshire.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and forward-thinking school community on an initial one-term maternity cover basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality English education, encouraging learners to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills across Key Stages 3 and 4.
About the Role:
As a Teacher of English, you will deliver engaging and inspiring lessons that foster a passion for English Language and Literature. You will support learners of varying abilities, helping them to build confidence, achieve academic success, and develop essential communication skills.
This role is initially offered as a one-term maternity cover, making it an excellent opportunity for both experienced teachers and ambitious educators looking to gain valuable experience within a successful secondary school environment.
Key Responsibilities of the Teacher of English:
- Plan and deliver high-quality English Language and Literature lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Create engaging learning experiences that inspire a love of reading and writing
- Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing constructive feedback
- Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all learners
- Encourage critical thinking, discussion, and independent learning
- Maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom management
- Contribute to departmental planning and wider school activities where appropriate
- Support students in achieving their academic potential and personal development goals
As the Ideal Teacher of English, You Should Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification
- Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting
- Strong subject knowledge of English Language and Literature
- Ability to inspire and motivate learners of varying abilities
- Excellent classroom management and organisational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to high-quality teaching and positive learner outcomes
- Flexibility and adaptability to support a maternity cover position
To Work with GSL Education, You Must:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
- Have recent experience teaching within an educational setting
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
