Cover Supervisor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Part-Time, Temporary, Supply
Start Date: September 2026 or sooner
Salary: £92-£120 per day

GSL Education are currently seeking enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisors to work in secondary schools across York and the surrounding areas. As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in ensuring continuity of learning during teacher absences. You will supervise classes, deliver pre-planned lessons, and support students in remaining focused and engaged with their learning.

Main Responsibilities as a Cover Supervisor:

  • Supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff.
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and ensure students remain on task throughout the session.
  • Manage classroom behaviour in accordance with school policies and expectations.
  • Support students with their learning and respond to questions where appropriate.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and productive learning environment.
  • Record attendance and report any behavioural or safeguarding concerns.
  • Liaise effectively with teaching staff and school leaders regarding lesson outcomes.
  • Encourage student engagement, participation, and independent learning.
  • Uphold safeguarding procedures and contribute to the overall wellbeing of students.

Cover Supervisor Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with young people in an educational, coaching, mentoring, or youth support setting is desirable.
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
  • Confidence in leading a classroom and working with secondary-aged students.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and adaptable in a busy school environment.
  • A proactive and positive approach to supporting student learning and development.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
