ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant)
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: January 2026
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Salary: £88 – £110 per day
GSL Education are looking for a compassionate and skilled ELSA to join a York-based specialist school team to support children and young people with their emotional wellbeing and social development. This is a full-time position, providing targeted 1:1 and small group interventions to help pupils build resilience, confidence, and self-regulation skills.
About the Role:
As an ELSA, you will work closely with teaching and support staff to deliver structured emotional literacy support. You will develop trusting relationships with pupils, identify areas where support is needed, and provide strategies to help them cope with challenges both in and out of the classroom.

As the Ideal Candidate, you should have:
- A Degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field
- ELSA qualification and/or Level 2 (or above) Teaching Assistant certificate
- Experience supporting children or young people in a school or care setting
- Knowledge of emotional literacy, wellbeing, and child development
- Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to deliver structured 1:1 or small group interventions
- Understanding of SEMH, ASC, or other additional needs
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
