SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: January 2026
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Salary: £88 – £110 per day
Are you passionate about supporting young people to achieve their potential? Do you have a background in psychology, sports, or coaching? GSL Education is looking for a full-time Teaching Assistant to join a specialist team of staff at an Alternative Provision in York.
About the Role:
In this role, you will work closely with learners who benefit from a small-group and personalised approach. You will support academic learning, social development, and wellbeing, as well as help deliver physical activity sessions, interventions, and enrichment opportunities. You may also provide targeted support for students with additional needs, including ASC, SEMH, or learning differences.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- A psychology degree or experience in understanding child development, behaviour, or wellbeing
- Experience in sports coaching, PE, or physical education
- Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills
- Confidence working with children with SEN, ASC, SEMH, or communication difficulties
- Energy, creativity, and a willingness to contribute to enrichment activities
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting positive outcomes for young people
