SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire

GSL Education is seeking a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a specialist provision in Scunthorpe catering for children who have been excluded from mainstream education. This full-time opportunity is ideal for individuals with experience supporting challenging behaviours and a passion for helping young people re-engage with learning.
About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work with pupils aged 5–16 who present with social, emotional and mental health needs, often alongside behavioural difficulties and disrupted education. Your role will involve building trust, offering consistency, and helping students regulate emotions so they can access learning in a safe, structured environment.
What We’re Looking For:

Experience supporting challenging behaviours in either children or adults (e.g., youth work, care, alternative provision, PRU, support work or similar roles).

The ability to work full-time, Monday to Friday.

A calm, confident and de-escalatory approach when working with distressed or dysregulated pupils.

Strong relationship-building skills and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Key Responsibilities:

Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups to help them manage emotions and behaviour.

Using positive behaviour strategies and personalised approaches.

Assisting teachers in delivering engaging, adapted lessons.

Encouraging pupils to develop social skills, resilience and confidence.

Promoting a supportive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
