Your Role as a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant

In this rewarding post, you will support pupils who display challenging behaviour, helping them build essential skills for learning and life. As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH or behaviour-related needs.

  • Helping students regulate emotions and develop resilience.

  • Supporting teaching staff by implementing behaviour strategies consistently.

  • Encouraging positive choices and building trusting relationships.

  • Contributing to a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.

Every day, your work as a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant will help students feel safer, more understood, and more capable.

What You Bring

To succeed as a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you should have:

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, challenging behaviour or SEN (desirable).

  • Strong communication, patience and emotional resilience.

  • Ability to remain calm, consistent and supportive under pressure.

  • A passion for helping young learners make positive improvements.

  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).
