ICT Curriculum Changes?
The Metro is reporting that Education Secretary Michael Gove has criticised the way Technology is currently being taught in England classrooms. His criticism comes after much debate surrounding the status of the ICT curriculum currently in place. The idea to retire the subject from the curriculum entirely has been raised; its status as compulsory in Primary and Secondary curriculums come September remains to be seen. Gove argues that giving schools the choice as to the topics covered will alleviate the boredom and stasis felt by students and teachers alike, while creating new opportunities for curriculum development in the subject area. His worry stems mostly from a concern for student preparedness for the job market in the current technological climate, arguing that the archaic nature of the current system lets them down.
Infant Class Sizes in Primary Schools
The Guardian is reporting that infant class sizes have recently come under scrutiny after news that one Local Authority spent upwards of £270,000 on creating extra Primary teaching jobs in order to maintain legal limits of student-teacher ratios. Primary Schools are expected to face nearly 500,000 extra students needing places over the next three years. Debate has arisen over the potential enlarging of existing class-size limits to accommodate this influx of need. Parents argue that children should not suffer the consequences of too-large class sizes, while others criticize the limits as being too inflexible and unrealistic.
