SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield (S13)
Salary: £95–£120 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/ Long Term, Full time / Part time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work with schools in Sheffield. This role provides the opportunity to support pupils with SEMH needs through personalised interventions, classroom support, and pastoral care.

About the Role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will work closely with pupils to support their social, emotional, and academic development. You will collaborate with teachers and school staff to provide tailored support that helps pupils manage their emotions, develop positive behaviours, and engage successfully in learning activities.

Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in implementing individual support plans and interventions.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation in pupils.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other support staff.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide observations to teaching staff.
  • Support pupils in the classroom, playground, and during extracurricular activities.
  • Prepare and organise resources to support learning and wellbeing.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and self-esteem in pupils.
  • Participate in school trips and off-site activities as required.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements for an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA):

  • Experience working with children in a UK school or similar setting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills.
  • Patience, understanding, and a proactive approach to supporting pupils.
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 or equivalent (desirable).
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply via GSL Education.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
