Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Sheffield, S2
Pay Rate: £95 – £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Sheffield. As a SEMH TA, this is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting pupils who may face behavioural, emotional, or mental health challenges, helping them to engage in learning within a safe and supportive environment.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored 1:1 or small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assisting in the development of personalised learning strategies and behaviour management plans.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and social skills within the classroom and school environment.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and self-confidence.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to meet pupils’ needs.

To be successful as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you should:

  • Have experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional learning needs.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, empathy, and behaviour management skills.
  • Be patient, adaptable, and committed to promoting pupil wellbeing.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.
  • Provide a full, up-to-date CV with explanations for any gaps in employment over the last 10 years.
