Job Title: Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Chesterfield, S40
Pay Rate: £86 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and resilient Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Chesterfield. Role Overview:
As a Secondary SEMH TA, you will work closely with students who present with behavioural and emotional challenges. Your role will be to build positive relationships, provide consistent support, and help students engage meaningfully with their education.

Responsibilities as a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Assist the class teacher and SENCO in implementing personalised learning plans.
  • Help students develop confidence, communication, and social skills.
  • Support classroom routines while maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.

Requirements for Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs is essential.
  • A patient, empathetic, and calm approach under pressure.
  • Ability to build strong, supportive relationships with young people.
  • Understanding trauma-informed practices is desirable.
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full, up-to-date CV with explanations for any gaps in employment in the last 10 years.
