Job Title: Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Staveley, S43
Pay Rate: £86 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are seeking a caring and resilient Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in a welcoming school in Staveley. This role is ideal for someone with a calm and compassionate nature who is ready to support children facing emotional or behavioural challenges.

Role Overview:
As a Primary SEMH TA, you will work one-to-one or with small groups of pupils, helping them access learning while providing consistent emotional and behavioural support. You’ll play a vital role in creating a safe, structured, and encouraging learning environment.

Responsibilities as a Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Support children with SEMH needs, helping them engage in learning and build positive relationships.
  • Implement strategies and behaviour support plans under the guidance of the SENCO and class teacher.
  • Provide regular encouragement and emotional regulation support.
  • Monitor and report on progress and well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families, and outside professionals where appropriate.

Requirements for Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEMH or behavioural needs is essential.
  • A good understanding of trauma-informed or restorative approaches.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure.
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full, up-to-date CV with explanations for any gaps in employment in the last 10 years.
