Primary Teacher 

Location: York
Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 per annum
Contract: Full Time (Maternity Cover)
Start Date: ASAP
Key Stage: KS2 class (6 learners working at Lower KS and KS1 levels)

GSL Education are seeking an experienced and nurturing Primary Teacher for a full-time maternity cover role within a specialist provision in York, supporting a small KS2 class of 6 learners working at Lower Key Stage and Key Stage 1 learning levels.

About the School

This welcoming specialist setting, part of a respected multi-academy trust, provides highly personalised education for pupils with a range of additional needs including SEMH, ASC, SLCN and nurture-based needs. The school places strong emphasis on therapeutic support, structured routines and relationship-led learning to help pupils make both academic and emotional progress. Staff work closely as a multidisciplinary team to ensure each learner receives tailored support.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to lower KS and KS1 learning levels
  • Teach a small KS2 class of 6 learners with complex needs
  • Support pupils with SEMH, ASC and speech, language and communication needs
  • Create a calm, nurturing and structured classroom environment
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, SENCO and pastoral teams
  • Monitor and assess progress against individual learning targets

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching in primary SEN, SEMH or specialist settings
  • Strong understanding of ASC, SLCN and nurture-based approaches
  • Ability to differentiate effectively for mixed learning levels
  • Patient, resilient and relationship-focused approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
