Sports Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: January 2026
Salary: £90 – £115 per day
Contract: Full Time
GSL Education are working with a welcoming and supportive primary school in the West of York who are looking to appoint a Full-Time Teaching Assistant to join them from January 2026. This role is ideal for someone with a strong sports background, experience working with children, and a passion for helping learners achieve their full potential.
The Role
This is a varied and rewarding position combining academic and physical development support:
- Mornings: Provide 1:1 support to a Year 6 pupil, helping them access learning, stay focused, and develop confidence ahead of transition to secondary school.
- Afternoons: Deliver PE-based interventions, including small-group physical activity sessions, coordination and movement programmes, and confidence-building sports activities.
As the Ideal Sports and SEN Teaching Assistant, we are looking for someone who is:
- Energetic, positive, and able to build rapport with upper KS2 pupils.
- Confident leading physical activities or sports sessions.
- Able to follow support plans and work closely with the class teacher and SENCO.
- A great communicator, encouraging, patient and consistent.
Essential Sports and SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- A sports background – e.g., coaching, PE assistance, sports leadership or relevant degree.
- Experience working with children in any setting (school, coaching, youth work, tutoring etc.).
- A valid Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
- Full availability Monday–Friday term time.
