Mental Health Support Worker
Location: Christchurch
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 Per Hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time
Are you passionate about supporting young people’s mental health and helping them achieve emotional stability and academic success? GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join schools in Christchurch.
As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will work closely with children and young people who experience social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. You will help them develop coping strategies, improve confidence, and re-engage positively with learning. The role involves supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, both in and outside the classroom environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support pupils with mental health and emotional needs through personalised interventions.
- Work alongside teachers and pastoral teams to create a positive and inclusive environment.
- Encourage self-esteem, motivation, and emotional resilience in students.
- Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies and support plans.
- Monitor and record student progress and communicate effectively with staff and parents.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people with mental health or SEMH needs.
- Strong understanding of emotional wellbeing and safeguarding principles.
- Excellent communication, empathy, and resilience when managing challenging behaviour.
- Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care, Psychology, Counselling, or related field are desirable.

- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
- Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
