About the Role
As an Autism Support Worker, you’ll play a key role in helping pupils with autism access learning and feel confident in their school environment. Working alongside the class teacher and SEN team, you’ll provide 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils manage routines, develop communication skills, and achieve personal and academic goals. This position is ideal for someone patient, proactive, and committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with additional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

  • Implement individualised strategies to promote engagement, communication, and social development.

  • Support sensory and emotional regulation, adapting approaches to meet each pupil’s needs.

  • Assist with classroom activities and help pupils access the curriculum.

  • Work closely with teaching staff and therapists to follow Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Support with personal care tasks when required, maintaining dignity and respect.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting pupils with autism or additional needs in an educational or care setting.

  • Understanding of autism support techniques, sensory needs, and communication strategies.

  • Ability to build trust and positive relationships with pupils and staff.

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour and learning support.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection principles.
