Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Rotherham
Pay Rate: £86 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are currently seeking a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school in Rotherham. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people who require additional emotional and behavioural support to reach their full potential.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs, promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
  • Assist the class teacher and SENCO in implementing individual learning and behaviour plans.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, self-confidence, and personal growth.
  • Support pupils in developing social and emotional skills through structured interventions and daily routines.
  • Help maintain a calm, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, reporting observations to teachers and pastoral staff.
  • Act as a positive role model, encouraging resilience and self-regulation in pupils.


Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs.
  • A calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach to managing challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any gaps.
