Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Sheffield
Pay Rate: £86 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Sheffield. This rewarding role offers an excellent opportunity to make a real difference by helping pupils build confidence, develop emotional regulation, and re-engage positively with their learning.

As an SEMH TA, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes in both their education and personal development.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lessons.
  • Support pupils in managing emotions, improving behaviour, and developing social skills.
  • Promote a safe, nurturing, and structured classroom environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to support pupils’ overall wellbeing.

Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience supporting pupils or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (experience in a school or alternative provision setting is desirable).
  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach to behaviour and learning support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to foster trust, build positive relationships, and encourage progress.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full CV covering the last 10 years, including explanations for any employment gaps.
