Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Sheffield
Pay Rate: £86 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Sheffield. This rewarding role offers the chance to make a real difference by helping pupils overcome emotional and behavioural barriers to learning in a nurturing and structured environment.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes in both their education and personal development.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Help pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping strategies.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive learning activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage pupils to re-engage with their learning.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies to provide holistic support.

Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (school or alternative provision experience is desirable).
  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and promote a safe, supportive learning environment.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full CV covering the last 10 years, including explanations for any employment gaps.
