Job description

We’re looking for a compassionate and resilient Behaviour Mentor to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a well-regarded primary school in Chelmsford.

Starting immediately, this full-time role involves working closely with a child who requires additional emotional and behavioural support to help them thrive both academically and socially. You’ll play a vital part in creating a positive, consistent, and nurturing environment that encourages learning, confidence, and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEN and behavioural needs.

  • Help implement behaviour management strategies and individual learning plans.

  • Encourage positive social interactions and emotional regulation.

  • Support the child in accessing learning and participating in classroom activities.

  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to provide consistent support.

  • Maintain accurate records and provide feedback on progress and behaviour.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children with SEN and/or behavioural needs (in schools, youth work, or similar settings).

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • The ability to remain positive and solution-focused in challenging situations.

  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s wellbeing and development.
