Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full-time / Term-time only
Start Date: October 2025 / November 2025
GSL Education is working in partnership with a specialist setting for children and young people with a wide range of special educational needs. We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and resilient Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team and support pupils in achieving their full potential in both learning and personal development.
About the Role as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN, adapting learning to meet individual needs.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive lessons and creating a positive learning environment.
- Support pupils with a range of needs, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and communication difficulties.
- Use strategies such as sensory activities, play-based learning, and visual supports to encourage engagement and progress.
- Help pupils through times of dysregulation, promoting emotional regulation, resilience, and independence.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and parents/carers to track progress and contribute to individual learning plans.
The Successful SEN Teaching Assistant Will Have:
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEN.
- Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging behaviour.
- Experience of working with SEN pupils is desirable, though training will be provided.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
