Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Contract: Full-time / Term-time only
Start Date: As soon as possible
GSL Education is working in partnership with a specialist school setting for children and young people aged 5–16 whose primary need is Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils who may find mainstream education challenging, helping them to achieve their potential both academically and personally.
About the Role as Teaching Assistant:
- Provide classroom support to teachers, ensuring all pupils are engaged and able to access learning.
- Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions to support pupils with SEMH and additional learning needs.
- Use positive behaviour management strategies to support pupils through times of dysregulation and crisis.
- Foster trusting relationships with students, encouraging confidence, resilience, and independence.
- Assist in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that reflects the ethos of Danesgate Community School.
The Successful Teaching Assistant Will Have:
- A genuine passion for working with children and young people with SEMH needs.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff.
- Experience in supporting children with additional needs is desirable, but full training will be provided.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
