SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £86 – £100 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are looking for dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to join schools across Sheffield.

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will provide vital support to children with additional emotional and behavioural needs, ensuring they feel safe, valued, and engaged in learning. Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will deliver tailored interventions, encourage positive behaviour, and help pupils develop essential life and social skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assist teachers in delivering lessons adapted to meet individual needs.
  • Encourage students to engage positively in class and regulate their emotions.
  • Support children with their academic, emotional, and social development.
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or equivalent qualifications preferred.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and supportive in challenging situations.
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply via GSL Education.
