Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Sheffield (S11)
Pay Rate: £95 – £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Sheffield. This role offers the opportunity to make a positive impact on pupils’ wellbeing and learning, helping them develop coping strategies, confidence, and engagement with their education.
Role Overview:
As an SEMH TA, you will work closely with teaching and support staff to provide targeted interventions and support for pupils facing social, emotional, or mental health challenges. You will contribute to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment where pupils can thrive academically and emotionally.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Encourage positive behaviours, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.
- Implement strategies to support pupils’ social and emotional development.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Observe, record, and report on pupils’ progress and wellbeing.
Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs in a school setting.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and de-escalation skills.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience when supporting pupils with complex needs.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
- A full CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any gaps.
