Secondary English Teacher – mainstream secondary – Southampton, Hampshire
Start Date: Immediate / January 2026 | Contract Type: Full-Time
Salary: £30,000 – £50,000 per annum (Depending on Experience)

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Secondary English Teacher to join a supportive mainstream secondary school in Southampton. This full-time role is available for an immediate start or from January 2026, offering a fantastic opportunity to make a lasting impact on students’ academic success.

As a Secondary English Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons across Key Stages, developing students’ language, literature, and critical thinking skills, and contributing to the wider school community. Both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities of a Secondary English Teacher:

  • Teach English Language and Literature across the Key Stages
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver creative and effective lessons
  • Track, assess, and report on student progress to support achievement
  • Maintain high standards of classroom behaviour and engagement
  • Encourage a love for reading, writing, and analytical thinking
  • Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to departmental success
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), ECTs, or recognised overseas teaching qualifications
  • Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature
  • Ability to motivate and inspire secondary school students
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour strategies
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply via GSL Education
