Start Date: Immediate / January 2026 | Contract Type: Full-Time
Salary: £30,000 – £50,000 per annum (Depending on Experience)

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and passionate English Teacher to join a thriving mainstream secondary school in Portsmouth. This is a full-time position, available for an immediate start or from January 2026, offering an excellent chance to make a positive impact in students’ academic journeys.

In this role, you will deliver engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, nurture a love of language and literature, and help students achieve their full potential. This is a fantastic opportunity for both experienced teachers and early career teachers (ECTs) looking to develop their practice in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English lessons across Key Stages
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports learning
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to support development
  • Contribute to the wider English department and school community
  • Encourage a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking among students
  • Uphold high standards of behaviour and classroom management
  • Commit to continuous professional development and reflective teaching practices

Teacher of English Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), ECTs, or recognised overseas teaching qualifications
  • Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and engage secondary school students
  • Effective classroom management skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply via GSL Education
