SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £90 - £110 per day
GSL Education are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to work at a Client Secondary School in York, starting as soon as possible.
About the School:
- With an emphasis on SEN children, this school is for secondary aged students, aged from 11 - 19 years which aims to provide SEN students and staff with exceptional standards of care and education.
- Every student at the School has a learning disability, and some of them also require extra special education services due to physical or sensory needs.
- The school provides its students with a customized, individualized curriculum that is in line with their needs and goals and closely related to the outcomes listed in each child's Education, Health, and Care Plan.
- The school's comprehensive curriculum provides teachers with a list of options of accessible and relevant topics to help students develop what is relevant to them and their identified EHCP broad areas of need.
- The curriculums at the school have been created after four years of intensive research into SEND as well as visits, research, and interactions with exceptional settings.
- One of the main goals of the school is to prepare students for adulthood.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to students with emotional, social, and mental health difficulties.
- Provide 1:1 or small group support to children and young people as required.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours.
- Establish supportive relationships with students.
- Encourage the development of social skills and emotional resilience.
- Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals.
- Attend relevant training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with SEMH needs.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people in SEMH, behavioural support, or complex needs settings.
- Understanding of SEMH-related challenges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be able to work collaboratively with staff members.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- An Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
