Classroom Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £85 - £110 per day
GSL Education are seeking a Classroom Teaching Assistant to work at a Client Secondary School in York, North Yorkshire starting as soon as possible.
About the School:
- With an emphasis on SEN children, this school is for secondary aged students, aged from 11 - 19 years which aims to provide SEN students and staff with exceptional standards of care and education.
- Every student at the School has a learning disability, and some of them also require extra special education services due to physical or sensory needs.
- The school provides its students with a customized, individualized curriculum that is in line with their needs and goals and closely related to the outcomes listed in each child's Education, Health, and Care Plan.
- The school's comprehensive curriculum provides teachers with a list of options of accessible and relevant topics to help students develop what is relevant to them and their identified EHCP broad areas of need.
- The curriculums at the school have been created after four years of intensive research into SEND as well as visits, research, and interactions with exceptional settings.
- One of the main goals of the school is to prepare students for adulthood.
Classroom Teaching Assistant requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people, ideally within a SEN environment.
- Understanding of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and a variety of learning difficulties.
- A relevant qualification such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning is desirable.
- Be able to engage with young people and build effective relationships.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to develop supportive connections with students, staff, and parents.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
Classroom Teaching Assistant duties:
- Work alongside the class teacher to deliver lessons tailored to individual student needs.
- Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support, helping learners overcome challenges to their progress.
- Support students with a range of special educational needs.
- Implement strategies, in collaboration with staff, to help pupils reach their learning objectives.
- Support the consistent and positive management of behaviour, including the use of de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Contribute to the preparation and organisation of teaching resources and classroom materials.
- Promote independence and confidence in students.
