Mental Health Support Worker
Location: Poole
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time

Are you passionate about supporting young people with their mental health and wellbeing in an educational setting? GSL Education are looking for dedicated Mental Health Support Workers to join schools in Poole.

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will work closely with students who are experiencing emotional and mental health challenges. You will provide one-to-one and small group support, helping them to develop coping strategies, build resilience, and re-engage with their learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional and practical support to pupils with mental health needs.
  • Help students develop positive coping mechanisms and confidence in managing challenges.
  • Work in collaboration with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to adapt support strategies.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to staff and parents/carers.
  • Encourage social interaction and create a safe, supportive learning environment.
  • Promote wellbeing and positive mental health awareness within the school.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with mental health needs.
  • CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare, Health & Social Care, Teaching Assistance, or equivalent qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • Understanding of mental health conditions and strategies to support young people.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and resilience.
  • A solid understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
