Mental Health Teaching Assistant
Location: Christchurch
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time / Permanent

Are you passionate about supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing? GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join schools in Christchurch.

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students, helping them to overcome barriers to learning linked to their emotional and social wellbeing. You will provide one-to-one and small group support, encourage positive behaviour, and assist teachers in creating an inclusive and nurturing classroom environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with mental health and emotional needs in the classroom.
  • Work on a one-to-one basis or with small groups to build confidence and resilience.
  • Assist teachers in managing behaviour and ensuring an inclusive learning environment.
  • Encourage students to engage positively with their studies and peers.
  • Monitor and report on student progress to teaching staff and pastoral teams.
  • Help create a safe, supportive, and caring atmosphere within the school.

Requirements:

  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or a degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with mental health needs.
  • Strong communication and empathy skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and patient under pressure.
  • A genuine commitment to promoting mental health and wellbeing in education.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
